Ben Affleck has addressed the elephant in the room – that he’s hired his wife, Jennifer Lopez to star in his upcoming film.

The 50-year-old confronted the awkward hire after chatting about his new film Air – the first from he and Matt Damon’s new production company, Artists Equity (AE), which aims to give people in the crew of a film a bigger slice of its financial success.

‘The idea is that we’re pulling a bunch of people above the line who traditionally aren’t. And they stand to do a lot better financially than they’ve ever done on movies before,’ said 52-year-old Bourne actor Matt.

But for their next film, which will be a biopic of Anthony Robles, a wrestler who was born with one leg, Ben also revealed his wife Jennifer would be starring in the film ‘as a favour’ to him.

In the interview alongside Matt with CBS News, Ben said: ‘Yes, I believe Jennifer Lopez may be doing that movie. Can’t make it look like she’s doing it as a favor to me, but actually she is.’

He also commented that he and Matt ‘always hire the very best performers’, before he added: ‘And in this case, I can say every single person that’s been cast so far I think is the very absolute best choice.’

Ben and Jennifer are the ultimate Hollywood dream team, and melted fans everywhere when they announced their relationship after being engaged 20 years previously.

They began dating in 2002 and were soon engaged, but after a wedding postponement, they officially broke up in 2004.

But that wasn’t to be the end of their love story, as the Jenny from the Block hitmaker revealed they rekindled their relationship in July 2021, and wed a year later in Las Vegas.

Much like J-Lo and Ben’s relationship, he and Matt’s friendship goes way back.

The Hollywood pair starred in Good Will Hunting together in 1998, and have remained close friends over the years as they both rocketed to fame.

It seems keeping loved ones close is top of Ben’s priorities at the moment as he gushed: ‘What fun, what a joy to do something with her, see her be great, go to work with your wife, go to work with your best friend.

‘Because ultimately, like, your work becomes the lion’s share of what defines your life, in terms of the time you spend.

‘And if you don’t like who you’re working with, and if you have difficulty or trouble at work, I think it’s one of the things that can really cause depression, anxiety and pain for people.

‘And conversely, [if] you love the people at work, you probably have a pretty good life, you know?”
